Plant
your
flag
in The Amazon

In 1911 Roald Amundsen planted the Norwegian flag at the South Pole. Now it’s time for you to plant yours.

Planting a flag in the wilderness is a symbol of achievement. For some, climbing Mount Everest is worth planting a flag, while for others just getting through a night in a tent in the back yard might be worth celebrating. With Hurtigruten’s new Explorer fleet, you will have the chance to plant your personal flag in some of the most exciting and remote areas in the world.

The beauty of the great Amazon River has given this destination a near mythical status among travellers.

Welcome to
the Jungle

The Amazon is the world’s largest tropical rainforest, home to the greatest diversity of plant and animal species on Earth. The beauty of the great Amazon River, with crystal blue waterfalls dotting the lush rainforest, has given this destination a near mythical status among travellers. Believe it. This is no myth.

Cross an entire ocean, followed an exploration of the rich variety of South America, filled with tropical beaches, pulsing city life, UNESCO World Heritage sites, spectacular landscapes and friendly people. Combine all this with sailing along the Amazon River for a front row view of the lush rainforest, add in a hike or kayak trip in the jungle, and you will feel like a true adventurer.

DAVID
LINDO

David Lindo, also known as The Urban Birder, was born and raised in London where he now works as a broadcaster, writer, photographer, public speaker and tour leader. From an early age, the birds of his hometown – (referring to the flying kind of birds, of course) – fascinated him.

In other words, life had a flying start for Lindo. Today, he spends his time travelling to TV appearances, writing, leading guided tours, and trying to inspire people to take a new look at their urban environments. His central passion is for urban birds, and he spends as much time as possible promoting the appreciation and conservation of the birds that share our city lives. His fascination with avian life keeps his eyes to the heavens.

This year he is looking to the rainforest, where he will plant a flag for the Great Auk and help bring awareness to the deforestation of the Amazon.

The new age
of exploration

The future of shipping will be silent and emission free. MS Roald Amundsen is the first of two hybrid ships Hurtigruten will add to its fleet over the next few years, cutting emissions by sailing with electrical propulsion.
